Independent Living Skills

Independent and person centered support for individuals with learning disability/autism to reach their full potential.

Each individual will progress at their own pace and so it is important that person centered programmes are tailored to meet individual requirements.

As part of the transition to independence it is important to enable young adults with learning disability/autism to learn essential skills and take time to become confident in their ability.

An individual programme may include:

  • Travel Training
    • Crossing the road
    • Understanding public transport timetables
    • Where to get on and off the Bus
    • Buying tickets/using bus pass
    • Planning a journey
  • Maintaining Home Cleanliness
    • Tidying
    • Dusting
    • Vacuuming
    • Cleaning kitchen and bathroom
    • Washing up
  • Laundry
    • Sorting clothing for washing
    • Using washing machine
    • Drying clothes
    • Ironing
  • Money management
    • Budgeting
    • Planning shopping
    • Recognising notes and coins
    • Paying for items and receiving change
    • Saving

We believe that a learning disability/Autism should not be a barrier to living an independent and fulfilling life and will always strive to enable each individual to achieve their true potential.
